Downhill, Cusco & Sacred Valley

Highlights

Downhill mountain biking is one of our favorite disciplines and we are sure that there is not a better downhill tour than this one! Wayo, our main guide, is 14 times National DH Champion and he has also got into the podium on different international races. He has developed this program that includes two main destinations and different other locations offering a perfect combination of difficulty, fun and the best landscapes.

Nowadays, Peru is being recognized as one of the best destinations for mountain biking around the world not only by the quality of the trails but also for their history and culture of thousands of years old reflected on old fortresses and a trail network of more than 20,000Km. The gastronomy of Peru is one of the best in the world and we will have time to experience the best food in town!

Each year we find new trails and that is why our program is changing to offer the best we have.

In Cusco we will meet with the Inca culture, riding their trails and passing next to their fortresses and Inca villages. We will feel that special energy that has Cusco considered as a World Heritage Centre by UNESCO.

We suggest taking an early flight to Cusco, departing from Lima around 9am to reach before noon and have time to make the check-in at the hotel, go for lunch and prepare our bikes for a short but fun ride on the upper part of Cusco. We will enjoy prime trails above Cusco and also reach some important Inca sites along the trail.

Today we leave Cusco and shuttle to the high lands of the Sacred Valley where we will ride three different trails. They all are different and the average drop per ride is around 1,000m. We will find loose and rocky terrain as well as fast and flowy lines!

At the end of the day we reach our hotel in Urubamba, Sacred Valley.

Early in the morning after a nutritious breakfast, we leave the hotel and drive towards the village of Lamay to ride two epic trails. Both trails starts from the top of the mountains above 4,000m.

We will ride ancient trails from top to bottom, passing small villages and potato farms! These trails are fast and flowy but also has rock steps that will take our skills to the limit!

Lunch will be served next to the trails surrounded by potato farms!

Early in the morning we load the bus and shuttle up to 4,500m where we will start a massive descent down to the Sacred Valley. The views from the top are among the best of this trip!

Get ready for steep lines, rock gardens, alpaca’s and much more!

Today we have a day off the bikes and it’s a good time to visit Machu Picchu, one of the new 7 wonders on earth! The visit to this archaeological site is simply amazing. You can’t miss this visit if you are in Peru!

Early in the morning we will take you to the train station to start this amazing journey to the upper part of the Amazon Jungle and visit Machu Picchu.

Note: The price of this tour is not included on the tour price.

Today we have another amazing day riding in three different mountains. The Other Side is a trail we found a few years ago and was hidden for centuries! An amazing descend that starts at 4,100m following ancient trails through a steep mountain. Our second ride is located on a steep mountain where we will pass through an ancient Inca site and a beautiful waterfall. The views are mind blowing!

Our last ride starts near an ancient Inca fortress and descends to the village of Ollantaytambo, one of the main Inca places in the old times!

Early in the morning, we will get on our bus and shuttle towards the village of Calca and go up to the top of the mountains. Our first ride is the classic Lares Downhill, an iconic ride with an amazing scenery and a well-built Inca trail. We will end at the bottom of the Sacred Valley where we will have lunch before heading back to Cusco. On the way to Cusco we will ride another trail that descends to the lower part of the city.

San Salvador is not very known from the biking community, but we know those trails and they are also on our top list of riding trails in the Sacred Valley! We will ride three different trails that are packed of ancient rock steps, get up to remote areas and ride down through small villages and amazing views of the Sacred Valley and the Inca site of Pisac!

Today we will ride one of the most impressive trails in Cusco that starts above 4,500m and have spectacular views of the whole valley of Cusco. This is a thrilling descent that goes down one of the most iconic mountains in Cusco. We will reach the end of the trail and shuttle back to Cusco for our last ride that ends in the main plaza of Cusco where we will have lunch.

The trip has reach to the end and it’s time to say good bye. An airport transfer will be organized according on your departure time.

See you soon!

Frequently Asked Questions

You are traveling to Peru and on the areas we are going to be riding our bikes there are no or very little options to buy spare parts for your bike. First, we suggest you make a deep clean and maintenance to your bike and check for worn parts such as chain, brake pads, cables and housings. Make sure everything is working properly, especially your brakes. Bring also new tires. We suggest Maxxis High Rollers 2.30/2.35 width and extra protection on the sides (EXO). Tubeless system is also suggested. If you are using tubeless, check it has liquid inside and it is not dry. We carry some bike parts on our tours but there are some parts that are very specific to each bike so you should consider bringing the following parts with you:

  • Extra derailleur hanger.
  • 2 sets of brake pads.
  • 2 Tubes, patches and pump. (We suggest putting tubeless system).
  • Some special tools for your bike and a bike multi-tool.
  • Back pack with water container. You will need to take your food, tools, water and jacket mainly.
  • Rain Jacket, waterproof, for cold mountain weathers.
  • Light thermal jacket. This will keep you warm if the temperature drops considerable.
  • 4 sets of riding clothes.
  • Helmet, gloves and safety glasses. Full face helmet is optional.
  • Knee pads. Elbow pads are optional.
  • Two pair of riding shoes.
  • Light.
  • Sun block. Recommended 50 SPF or more.
  • Insect repellent.

The best way to take your bike on the flight is on a bike box. You can choose either a normal hard cardboard box or those hard plastic boxes. In both cases, you should be very careful packing your bike and prevent scratching or some damage to vulnerable parts like the derailleur hanger, brakes, fork, etc. Use lots of padding and your knee and elbow pads to protect your bike and use also plastic strips to tight all the loose parts together. The way we pack our bikes is the following: we first take out the pedals, wheels and remove the disc rotors from the wheels.

Then we take the air from the shocks leaving only 5 or 10 psi. The next step is to put the seat post all the way into the frame or take it out and then take the handlebar away from the stem. We take also derailleur hanger from the frame to prevent damage. Now the bike is ready to put on the box and put all the protections to prevent scratching.

Make sure the bike fits on the box normally, check the area of the bottom of the fork and the back of the bike (derailleur hanger). You can put some of your riding gear such as shoes, knee and elbow pads, helmet, gloves, back pack, etc.

We have selected for our tours three star hotels in which our clients can get a nice quiet room, comfortable and located on the best part of the city. In some cases we select hotels out of the city with a lot of character.

On some of our tours that include camping, we will provide 4-people tents for two person, mattresses and sleeping bags for cold conditions. We also provide all the meals during the camping to ensure a comfortable stay on the outdoors.
