Discover Lima from a different perspective—on two wheels. Our Lima mountain bike tours take you beyond the city and into the desert, valleys, and rugged Andes that surround Peru’s capital.
Most visitors know Lima as the gateway to Peru, a huge coastal capital famous for its history, gastronomy, and vibrant urban life. But beyond the city streets, Lima offers an extraordinary mountain biking playground stretching from the Pacific coast into the arid and rugged Andes.
For mountain bikers, Lima is an unexpected destination.
Lima sits on one of the most arid coastlines in the world, surrounded by a dramatic desert landscape. Just outside the city, the urban environment quickly gives way to dry hills, rocky mountains, sandy trails, deep valleys, and ancient paths.
But Lima's riding doesn't stop at the desert.
The Andes rise dramatically east of the city, creating some of the most spectacular and demanding mountain bike terrain in the region. The mountains here are dry, rocky, rugged, and often extremely steep, creating incredible opportunities for Cross Country, All Mountain, Enduro, and Downhill.
Lima is home to some truly legendary downhill riding.
One of the most famous is the Olleros descent, an extraordinary route that starts high in the western Andes and drops through technical singletrack and rugged mountain terrain before continuing toward the Pacific coast. The classic route includes more than 2,000 meters of vertical descent on singletrack, with the entire journey eventually connecting the mountains with the coast.
This is what makes riding around Lima so unique: you can start your day high in the Andes and finish your ride close to the Pacific Ocean.
Other mountain destinations around Lima, including the spectacular highlands around Marcahuasi, offer completely different terrain, with high-altitude rocky landscapes, dramatic rock formations, technical trails, and enormous descents.
For experienced riders, Lima offers some seriously demanding terrain—and our knowledge of these mountains allows us to select the right routes according to your skills and riding style.
The dry climate and rugged terrain create riding conditions that are completely different from the lush mountain environments found elsewhere in Peru.
Expect loose and rocky surfaces, steep climbs, technical descents, exposed terrain, fast sections, switchbacks, natural obstacles, and dramatic changes in elevation.
Some routes are ideal for riders looking for a challenging technical adventure. Others offer more relaxed riding focused on landscapes, exploration, and discovering the hidden valleys surrounding the city.
One of the most fascinating aspects of mountain biking around Lima is the contrast between ancient history and modern Peru.
The region surrounding Lima has been inhabited for thousands of years, and ancient paths and archaeological sites can still be found throughout the coastal valleys and mountains.
A ride can take you through landscapes that have been traveled for centuries, while the enormous modern city remains visible in the distance.
This combination makes riding around Lima unlike almost anywhere else: desert mountains on one side, the Pacific Ocean on another, and one of South America's largest cities stretching between them.
