Enduro Mountain Biking in Cusco: 4,000m of Descent in One Epic Day

How much mountain biking can you fit into a single day in Cusco? With the right trails, good logistics and a strong rider, the answer is: a lot!
On this private one-day Enduro mountain biking tour in Cusco, we set out with one goal: make the most of every hour on the bike. By the end of the day, we had ridden several incredible trails around Cusco and the Sacred Valley and accumulated more than 4,000 meters (13,000 ft) of vertical descent.
And this wasn’t about repeating bike-park laps. It was a journey through completely different Andean landscapes, trails and terrain.
From High-Andean Trails to Technical Singletrack
One of the things that makes mountain biking in Cusco so special is the incredible variety of terrain packed into a relatively small area.
Throughout the day, we connected several descents, each with its own character. We rode fast and flowing singletrack, rocky technical sections, natural drops, steep terrain and ancient trails that have connected Andean communities for generations.
At times, the riding became wonderfully unpredictable. Sheep appeared on the trail, local people crossed our path, and centuries-old stone sections turned into technical features beneath our wheels.
This is exactly what riding in Peru is about. The trails weren’t built for mountain bikes — mountain bikes simply happen to be an incredible way to explore them.
More Than 4,000 Vertical Meters in One Day
With efficient vehicle support and careful planning, we were able to concentrate on what mattered most: riding.
Instead of spending hours climbing roads to reach each trailhead, our support vehicle allowed us to access different high points around Cusco and the Sacred Valley. From there, we dropped into long natural descents before moving on to the next trail.
By the end of the day, our GPS showed more than 4,000 meters of total descent.
For an experienced rider, that’s a serious day on the bike — especially on the raw, natural terrain of the Peruvian Andes.
Private Mountain Bike Tours Built Around the Rider
This ride was also a great example of how we approach our private mountain bike tours in Peru.
There was only one guest on this tour, so there was no fixed group pace and no need to follow a standard itinerary. We could adapt the day to his riding level, choose trails that matched his experience and keep riding as long as the conditions and daylight allowed.
At InkAs Adventures, we believe the best MTB experience isn’t necessarily the one that follows the same route every day. It’s the one that fits the rider.
Our knowledge of the local trail network allows us to combine different routes depending on riding ability, weather, trail conditions and what kind of experience you’re looking for.
Why Cusco and the Sacred Valley Are an Enduro Paradise

Most travelers know Cusco for Machu Picchu, the Incas and the spectacular landscapes of the Sacred Valley.
Mountain bikers see something else.
We see mountains covered with ancient trails. We see huge elevation differences, endless natural singletrack and the possibility of riding from high-altitude Andean terrain into valleys, forests and small communities — sometimes all in the same descent.
That’s what makes Enduro mountain biking in Cusco and the Sacred Valley so unique.
There are no perfectly groomed bike-park trails here. This is natural mountain biking: rocky, technical, fast, challenging and constantly changing.
And that’s exactly why we love it.
